Controlled Catalog Indexing and E-E-A-T Content for an Online Pharmacy: Google Clicks Up 10x in a Year

We excluded filters and duplicates from indexing, set up meta tag templates and structured data, and prepared category texts with verified information. In a year, search clicks grew from 42 to 449 a month, impressions almost 9x, and the average position rose from 38.5 to 15.2.

Controlled Catalog Indexing and E-E-A-T Content for an Online Pharmacy: Google Clicks Up 10x in a Year

Challenge

An online pharmacy with a large drug catalog was getting almost no search traffic: in August 2025 the site had only 42 Google clicks a month at an average position of 38.5, far beyond the first page.

The niche is hard because pharmacy is a YMYL topic. Google expects proven accuracy and trust from such sites, and the competitors are large pharmacy chains with strong domains and years of history.

Technically, the problem was the size of the catalog:

  • tens of thousands of product and filter pages wasting crawl budget;
  • duplicates from pagination and URL parameters;
  • identical template meta tags on thousands of pages;
  • categories without useful text, so Google could not tell which queries to show them for.

What we did

Controlled indexing

We split pages into those that should bring traffic and those that only get in the way. Filters and parameters were excluded from indexing, and canonical URLs and pagination were set up so Google spends its resources on categories and popular products.

Meta tag and markup templates

For categories and products we built title and description templates that use the drug name, form and dosage. We added Product and BreadcrumbList markup to earn rich snippets.

E-E-A-T category content

For key categories we prepared texts with verified information and links to official instructions, exactly the kind of content Google expects from medical sites.

Ongoing monitoring

Every month we track indexing, positions by query group and new technical issues, which inevitably appear in a large catalog with a constantly changing assortment.

Results

Google Search Console data after a year of work:

  • Google clicks: 42 in August 2025 → 449 in September 2026, 10.7 times more;
  • impressions: 1,251 → 11,039 a month, peaking at 15,866 in August 2026;
  • average position: 38.5 → 15.2.

Growth was gradual: by October-November 2025 clicks had already tripled, and since June 2026 the site has consistently received over 250 clicks a month and keeps growing.

What makes this project special

In a medical niche you cannot pump up traffic quickly: Google trusts only sites with a clean technical base and verified content. Here the result came from combining controlled indexing of a large catalog with quality category pages, without aggressive tactics that quickly cost rankings in YMYL topics.

Questions about this project

Why is SEO for an online pharmacy harder than for a regular store?

Pharmacy is a YMYL topic, so Google closely evaluates the accuracy of information and trust in the site. Besides a solid technical base, you need content with verified data and links to official instructions.

What is controlled indexing and why does a large catalog need it?

It is a setup where only useful pages get indexed: categories and products, not thousands of filter variants and duplicates. That way Google spends its crawl budget on pages that drive sales.

How long did it take to see results?

The first noticeable growth came 1-2 months after the technical fixes: by October-November 2025 clicks had tripled. The tenfold growth took about a year.

Can you promote a pharmacy without medical content?

Technical optimization alone can bring some traffic, but stable rankings in a medical niche require quality category pages with verified information.

How do you handle thousands of similar product pages?

With meta tag and markup templates that insert the name, form and dosage, and with canonical URLs for variants of the same product.

Do you run ads for medicines?

Drug advertising is heavily restricted on Google and Meta, so for pharmacies we focus on SEO. Ads can only be set up for permitted product categories and in line with platform rules.
