Why maps often matter more than organic results for clinics
Most medical searches are local. Pediatrician near me, ultrasound today, dentist open now: for queries like these, Google shows a map block with three practices above the regular results. Patients see the rating, number of reviews, distance and hours, and often call straight from there without ever opening the website.
For a clinic with several branches, the job is harder. Google has to understand which location serves which neighborhood or city. Without that setup, branches compete with each other rather than with other clinics, and none of them makes it into the top three.
What works differently in local SEO for clinics
Categories and services. The primary profile category strongly influences which searches you appear for. A medical center, a dental clinic and a diagnostic center get very different visibility, so we choose primary and secondary categories based on what each branch actually offers and fill out the full service list.
Reviews with medical ethics in mind. The number, recency and content of reviews are among the main local ranking factors. But when replying, a clinic must not confirm that someone was a patient or discuss their treatment. We prepare reply templates that sound human while revealing no medical information.
Accurate data. Opening hours, holiday hours, the front desk phone number and the online booking link. A patient who drives to a closed clinic is unlikely to come back, and Google takes signals like this into account.
Medical directories. Beyond general listings, clinics and doctors appear on medical platforms and physician directories. A consistent name, address and phone number everywhere strengthens trust in each location.
Our approach
- Local presence audit. We review the profiles of every branch, look for duplicates, check categories and reviews, and measure map rankings for key searches from different points across the city.
- Google Business Profile optimization. Categories, services, description, photos of treatment rooms and equipment, attributes, posts and answers to questions.
- Location pages. A dedicated page for each branch: address, map, hours, doctors, services, directions and reviews.
- Local landing pages. Pages that combine a city with a symptom or treatment, so the site can answer local searches it previously had no answer for.
- Schema and listings. MedicalClinic schema with coordinates and opening hours, plus NAP consistency across directories and medical platforms.
- Review system. A process for requesting reviews after a visit and reply templates for both positive and negative cases.
What we usually find
- Several branches tied to a single profile or a single page on the site.
- Duplicate profiles created years ago by staff or directories.
- Keywords stuffed into the business name, which puts the profile at risk of suspension.
- Outdated opening hours and no holiday schedule.
- Review replies that mention a patient's diagnosis or treatment details.
Results from our projects
For a medical clinic with four locations in different cities on a single domain, we set up a separate Google Business Profile for each branch so that signals were not diluted between addresses. On the website we built a structure of local pages for cities and symptoms and published around 994 geo-targeted articles while monitoring how they were indexed. In the first month, indexed pages went from 56 to 816, Google search impressions grew by 99%, clicks by 69%, and the average position improved from 16.6 to 14.0.
For an aesthetic medicine clinic, we support local presence separately from core SEO, because patients look for treatments close to where they are.
Timelines and what you get each month
After profile optimization, changes in map rankings often show within 2-6 weeks. Sustained growth in calls and direction requests depends on reviews and how dense the competition is in the area, so we assess it separately for each branch.
Each month you receive a report for every location: calls, direction requests and website clicks from the profile, map rankings for key searches, new reviews and our replies, plus a list of published local pages and the plan for the following month.
What a branch page should include
The map profile links to your website, and the branch page is what convinces patients they have picked the right place. We do not build copies with a different address. Each page has its own copy about the neighborhood and the location itself. It lists the doctors who see patients at this branch and the services available there, because equipment and specialists often differ between locations. We add an embedded map, directions and parking information, photos of the entrance and reception, opening hours and reviews from patients of that branch. MedicalClinic schema with coordinates is set up separately for each location, and the link in the Google profile points to this page rather than the homepage.
Who this is for
- clinics and medical centers with one or more branches;
- dental practices, labs, diagnostic centers and physiotherapy practices;
- aesthetic clinics competing within their neighborhood;
- growing networks that open new locations and want patients in a new city quickly.
